The Dow Live Earth Run for Water Will Raise Awareness and Money for the Global Water Crisis

SAN DIEGO, CA – October 19, 2009 – The Active Network, Inc. (Active), a leading provider of application services technology and marketing solutions for community service and participatory sports organizations, announced today that it has teamed up with Live Earth, to provide online event registration for the Dow Live Earth Run for Water races, a series of 6km runs/walks that will take place over a 24 hour period, span multiple continents, and raise money and awareness for the global water crisis. The Dow Live Earth Run for Water (DLRFW) runs/walks, the largest solutions-based initiative in history aimed at solving the world’s water crisis, will take place April 18, 2010. In addition to online registration, Active will provide participants with online training and fundraising tools.

For all DLRFW runs/walks, Active will provide secure online registration and send participants an immediate email to confirm their participation in the event in their town. As an added bonus, participants will have access to Active’s popular ActiveTrainer program designed to help individuals create customized training plans to help reach their personal fitness goals. Active will also provide online donation tools that allow individuals to create personalized fundraising pages and send donations directly to charities benefitting water challenges worldwide. In addition, 10 percent of all domestic registration fees will go to the Global Water Challenge.

“Active has been instrumental in not only providing the back-end technology required to support an event of this size and complexity, but by leveraging Active.com, we can attract participants outside of Live Earth’s traditional audience,” explained Catherine Geanuracos, general manager for Live Earth. “Active is the global leading provider of online registration for endurance events and we are excited to have an industry veteran by our side.”

In addition to online registration, training programs and fundraising tools, Active plans to promote the 6km DLRFW runs/walks (the average distance many women and children walk every day to secure water) through a variety of channels including targeted email campaigns and newsletters. Active also plans to create message boards, blogs and editorial content about the DLRFW runs/walks, featured on Active’s award winning online community and the largest participatory sports site in the world, Active.com.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Live Earth and play a part in raising awareness for such a pressing environmental issue,” explained Alex Barnetson, senior vice president of The Active Network, Inc. “As a leader in both online registration and charitable giving, we see this as more than just a series of runs and walks, but an opportunity for everyone to become involved in a global movement. We look forward to helping make all events in April a huge success!”
