The Active Network Opens London Office

SAN DIEGO, CA – June 6, 2008 – The Active
Network, Inc. (Active), a leading provider of online entry and event management
technology, today announced it has opened an office in Hammersmith, London, to
expand its presence and better manage events in the UK. Well known for its
popular Active.com site, the largest online community for active individuals ,
the company has hired several experts in the endurance sports market and will be
launching new marketing initiatives in Europe to increase awareness of Active’s
wide range of product offerings.
Active provides online entry for over
55,000 sports events worldwide and over 1,200 events across Europe. Its
solutions help sports and community organisations improve customer service,
increase revenues, and reduce the cost and complexity of managing and marketing
events. And for active individuals, the company’s award-winning Active.com site
offers fitness and training programmes, gear and nutrition advice, donation and
team management tools. Active.com has 15.7 million registered users and
generates more than 85 million monthly page views.
“The London office
provides us with local expertise and our customers with around-the-clock
support,” explained Sejal Pietrzak, vice president of Active’s international
business. “We are excited to focus on the unique services and technologies
required in the British marketplace and now have a platform to accelerate our
momentum in the UK.”
One of Active’s first initiatives in the UK is to
expand its presence in the endurance market focusing specifically on running,
cycling, swimming and triathlon. Active provides event organisers with
customisable online entry technology that offers real-time-reporting, email
marketing tools, accounting packages and access to post events on Active’s
Europe-wide Event Calendar, and soon to be global event calendar. Active will
also be launching a monthly newsletter that will be distributed to over 400,000
registered users across Europe, and introducing online training programs
designed for both coaches and athletes.
As part of its European
expansion, Active has hired several British business managers experienced in the
endurance sports market. Simon Whiten brings over 17 years of media industry
expertise having managed four of the largest cycling Web sites in the UK and
continues to cycle at a competitive level. In addition, senior account
executive, Tim Hutchings, has been involved in the running industry for over 25
years and was a former Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist. Account
executive, Sam Renouf is a recently retired professional triathlete and was the
youngest member of the GB Triathlon team. Finally account manager, Jenny Kinnear
is an avid marathon runner.
